a book i started a couple years ago has resurfaced:
“It is truly a great cosmic paradox that one of the best teachers in all of life turns out to be death. No person or situation could ever teach you as much as death has to teach you. While someone could tell you that you are not your body, death shows you. While someone could remind you of the insignificance of the things that you cling to, death takes them all away in a second. While people can teach you that men and women of all races are equal and that there is no difference between the rich and the poor, death instantly makes us all the same.” (Untethered Soul, Michael Singer)

death is a phenomenon we spend most of our lives pretending like it doesn’t exist. we avoid it like the plague and we refuse to contemplate the role it plays in our lives. the truth is, we all will die one day — all walks of life. no one escapes death.

i started learning how to befriend death this past year. look at it, talk to it, converse with it. the range of emotions experienced was vast and intense. death made me upset, confused and angry. but it also made me grateful, grounded and present. i leaned into it and thanked it for the gift it has given us. there has been so many gifts. the strange thing is: it’s not painful the way life can be. death is the perfect bond that cradles us when we have fulfilled our soul’s contracts in this life.

death is the ultimate healer.

it took my grandpa’s broken body, opened his heart and freed his soul. now his love is everywhere.

it’s the knowledge of self, understanding the things around me, that becomes the wisdom that I need. ~nujabes
